Transitional Housing

The Transitional Housing provides funds for the construction, acquisition, or rehabilitation of residential housing for low-income individuals and families having an immediate need for temporary or transitional housing. The Transitional housing programs play an important part in many communities as they aid people struggling to get back on their feet. THP help people in your community make the transition to living on their own.

Supporting Housing

The Supportive Housing Program is designed to develop supportive housing and services that will allow homeless persons to live as independently as possible.

Supportive Housing Program is provided to help homeless persons meet three overall goals:

  • Achieve residential stability,
  • Increase their skill levels and/or incomes, and
  • Obtain greater self-determination (i.e., more influence over decisions that affect their lives).

 

Halfway Housing

A halfway house or recovery house is only a clean and sober environment, where recovering people can continue their recovery. The purpose of a halfway house, also called a recovery house or sober house, is generally to allow people to begin the process of reintegration with society, while still providing monitoring and support; this is generally believed to reduce the risk of recidivism or relapse when compared to a release directly into society.

Single Room Occupancy (SRO)

SRO housing contains multiple single room dwelling units that are occupancy by one person. These units may contain food preparation or sanitary facilities, or both. The rental assistance payments cover the difference between a portion of the tenant's income (normally 30%) and the unit's rent, which must be within the fair market rent (FMR) established by HUD.

Low Income Housing/Subsidy

Low income housing refers to residencies for individuals or families with low annual household income. The purpose of low income housing is to provide places for people to live at a reasonable cost for them to afford.

Subsidies are often defined by whether the subsidy is given to the landlord and then criteria are set for the tenants they can lease to or whether the subsidy is given to the tenant, typically as a voucher, and they are allow to find suitable private housing. The subsidy amount is typically based on the tenant's income, but other formulas have been used.

Substance Abuse Treatment

Individual Counseling

Individual counseling is a collaborative process in which a unique, confidential helping relationship is developed between a counselor and a willing client (student/Client). In this relationship, the professional counselor acts as a facilitator to help the client to understand more accurately his/herself and the world around him/her.

Group Counseling

Group counseling is a form of therapy, which posits that people benefit from shared experiences. Usually group counseling is focused on a particular issue, for example obsessive-compulsive disorder or anger management. One of the main principals behind group counseling is the idea that dealing with specific issues may cause isolation, and a feeling that one is alone in facing one's problems.

Clinical Case Management

Clinical case management is the process of facilitating, linking, monitoring, and advocating for children and their families to ensure that multiple services, designed to meet a families and a child's need for care, are delivered in a coordinated and therapeutic manner. CCM are able to provide accurate assessments, create and coordinate services plans, and know when and how to intervene.

HIV Education

Effective HIV and AIDS education can help prevent these new infections by providing people with information about HIV and how it is passed on, and in doing so equipping individuals with the knowledge to protect themselves from becoming infected with the virus.HIV and AIDS education can take place at A Step Forward in many different environments, from classes at school to families and friends sharing knowledge at home. It is important that this education is provided in a variety of settings to ensure that the most vulnerable and marginalised groups in society are reached, and that accurate information about HIV and AIDS is reinforced from different sources.
